CP Rail crews continue to work on the railway bridge over Victoria Road in Revelstoke.

Work on the CP Rail bridge over Victoria Road will continue for the next few weeks, said CP Rail work-site foreman Dan Ward.

“The concrete slabs between the bridge supports and the concrete uprights are crumbling,” Ward said. “We’ll be here for the next three to four weeks replacing the concrete pedestals with steel slabs.”

Traffic controllers were on Victoria Road today slowing traffic in both directions. Traffic has occasionally been stopped briefly.

CP Rail spokesman Kevin Hrysak said community safety is paramount and slowing traffic on Victoria is a necessary evil. “Slowing traffic will, unfortunately, be necessary in order for work to continue,” he said.

Workers will be on the job four days a week. The work will continue for approximately three weeks.

CP Rail is covering all costs for the construction.
