Mother’s Day in the Peace Region is approaching quickly and there are plenty of ways to appreciate Mom this year, with flowers being the perennially popular choice.
But the Peace Region has different tastes in those fragrant pleasantries and the Dawson Creek Daily News spoke with florists in the Peace Region to find out which flowers are selling the fastest.
Stargazer lilies are the most popular choice for flowers for Mother’s Day, according to Lilies & Lavender Floral Boutique in Fort St. John.
The most popular colour is the brightly kaleidoscopic reddish-pink flower with long petals and protruding yellow strands in the centre. They also come in white.
Gerbera daisies and Lilies of all colours are the most popular picks for the yearly event, according to Flowers By Charene in Dawson Creek.
Carnations are also a popular choice and a favourite pick for Anna Jarvis, a schoolteacher by profession and the original creator of Mother’s Day, when she wanted to revere her mother just after the turn of the
century.
According to the West Virginia archives and history, Mother’s Day was first observed on May 10, 1908, thanks to Jarvis.
In and around Dawson Creek, local mother Debbie Dynna plans to take control of mother’s day to make sure it gets done right.
By recruiting her daughter and taking the initiative with her own mother, Mother’s Day will surely be a momentous occasion in her household.
“Hopefully, I’ll be getting my daughter to serve me breakfast in bed,” said Dynna.
