Missing elderly Revelstoke resident found after morning search

An local elderly woman was found after a nearly six-hour search on Tuesday morning, to the relief of Revelstoke-area residents.

Julie Cyronek was found in a stairwell in an undisclosed location with no apparent signs of injury or trauma and was found breathing normally and in generally good health.

As a precaution, paramedics transferred Cyronek to Queen Victoria Hospital for examination and local RCMP are confident that she will be released quickly.

“Julie was taken to Queen Victoria shortly after she was found,” said Revelstoke RCMP Staff-Sgt. Jacquie Olsen.

In a news release, Revelstoke RCMP issued a statement that Cyronek had been missing since 7:15 a.m., Mar. 19, and was last seen at her residence in the Selkirk Gardens apartment building on Sixth Street East.

Shortly after sending out the news release at 12:35 p.m., Olsen sent out a second e-mail indicating Cyronek was located.

“We had been searching for her since about 7 a.m.,” said Olsen. “We have been coordinating with local search and rescue to find Julie, and the efforts of everyone involved are greatly appreciated in finding her.”

She is a woman of advanced years who suffers from slight dementia and is known for taking walks to and from the McDonald’s, where search and rescue had been looking for her.
